i’ve begun writing this at the end of a tough week 9. i have just finished the first task while i waited for my laptop to charge and am meant to begin working on week 10 tomorrow but don’t know that i should allow myself to move on just yet. i may need to get tough with myself and push to accomplish at least one more task tomorrow before moving forward to the next week.
i wrote my 60th morning pages entry this morning (october eighteenth) and am extremely grateful for and proud of this milestone. in my first morning pages entry on august eighteenth, i wrote, “some days i may not make it happen in the morning. i will do my best to make the time but will not be hard on myself and will not give up.” since that day, i’ve missed my morning pages twice and have finished probably about 10 entries halfway through my day, but i’ve not let any stumble or delay stop me from coming back to write again. if i could hug myself, i would.

1. how many days this week did you do your morning pages? (have you been very tempted to abandon them?) how was the experience for you?
i missed my morning pages one day this week because it was an early day and i got swept up in work and did not prioritize my pages on my break. but i’ve never let a missed day stop me from moving forward in my artist’s way process or lessen my motivation to get back to it the next day. i am very proud of myself for that.
2. did you do your artist day this week? (have you been allowing workaholism or other commitments to sabotage this practice?) what did you do? how did it feel?
i had a few mini artist dates this week, which felt really nice. on tuesday, i had Emily over for her meal-prepping and got organized and did a little art project while she was here. and at night, i made a new meal with just my intuition; no measurements or recipes. it was a delicious pasta dish made with tomatoes and ricotta. and on friday after my first doctor’s appointment in over a decade, i walked around the west village listening to my new favorite album, stopped in a beautiful public garden bursting with dahlias, then sat in the park for an hour working on artist way tasks. all dates were unplanned, and i’m happy to have used my free time creatively and for me.
